This week we started working on our Gamification projects. Gamifacation is when kids can go into the art room, and can work on what they want. The kids have a lot of freedom! I really like doing this because I can work on the projects I like to work on. I also like it because I can move on my own pace, I can work on one project then move on to another, and not have to wait for other people to finish. When we worked on this project our teacher gave us 8 different topics that we could work on. The 8 topics had three challenges. Some people even chose to do other things. One of my friends Kate is doing photography. She had to talk with our teacher about how many points each picture was. The really cool thing about Gamification is we get points for every challenge completed. The more points we get the cooler the prizes! If we reach 100,000 then we get a Dairy Queen coin! If we reach 150,000 points we get to get art supplies! That's not even the best part! If we reach 200,000 we get to have lunch with our teacher, bought by our teacher! Right now I have earned 55,000 points! I worked on printmaking this week! The first thing I did was a 2 color print! I worked with my friend Jessica( I call her Jess)! We worked on the printmaking projects together! First, Jess and I had to decide witch project to do first. We decided that we would tackle 3 projects at once. We both would work on a 2 colored print and then we would combine our 2 prints together to make something else. I will talk about that project in another post! Then we quickly got to work there was a lot that needed to be done in a week. We started by brainstorming an idea that we could both do a part and if we combined them it would make something. Jess really likes the Steelers football team! Since she was a good friend, and she let me do a lot of things I agreed with her to make the Steelers symbol. She was going to make the word STEELERS, and I was going to make the diamonds. Then after we got done creating our prints we would combine them to make the full symbol! We both started by printing off the part of the symbol we where making. Then we had to draw, or trace the parts we where doing on to our linoleum blocks. Once we had that done we started cutting out the pieces of block that we didn't want to show. We had to use special tools to help us do this step. When our hands got tired we would use a hair dryer to warm up the block, so we could carve it easier. In some parts when we where carving we had to use smaller tools to get into smaller spots! Soon after we where all done carving! We then started to print our single 2 color prints. Jess got started no problems, but I had a problem! After I got one color down I couldn't line up my print to do my next color! Jess told me that she could help me, long as I did her a small favor in exchange. She kept getting small lines in her prints! I could help her all I had to do was carve away more. While she helped me line up my prints, I helped her cut straight and not have anymore lines! Then we where on our ways! jess made her Stealers word, and I made diamonds. I actually made a 3 colored print because the Stealers colors are red, blue, and yellow. I got an extra 5,000 points! In the ends of our project Jess, and I talked about what we liked the best. I really enjoyed cutting out the dimonds because I am very good at doing fine lines around the shapes! Jess and I also talked about what skills we impoved on. We both realized that when we couldn't line up a print, or we couldn't cut a line straight that we taught each other how to do another thing. I have realized that I have very much improved on lining up my prints, so they look like they are together! Jess and I also talked about how I could have used a colored sheet of paper to make a background for my print of dimonds. I think this would have looked nice because it might have made the colors pop. We also talked about how we could have cut prices off my linoleum block to take away some of the lines I was getting. I also noticed that this project made me relize that when someone doesn't know something, then someone always comes around to help. We had lots of fun making this project, and I hope you check out my next blog post about our combined print! | |
